Spring in New England is cruel. And April is the cruelest month. Maybe that's why my daughter's class is having a "mean girls" episode. Two students claim to hate each other and say snide, negative and hurtful things. My girls are caught in the middle, since they are friends with the two sworn enemies.
Call me naive, but my approach to dealing with this is to urge my girls to be active and to tell the offender that it's not OK to say that. Speak up, take the moral high ground. Don't worry about jeapordizing your friendship with the Queen Bee. She'll get over it. I wonder if this approach will work through adolescence....
