The orphan sock population hit an all time high this week. 35. Did I really count 35? How can this happen? I thought I knew where all the lost socks hid, even if I couldn't find them on cue. Statically pinned to the inside of a sheet; balled up in a discarded shoe, under the bed, in a toy bin. I want to believe they are all still there, and they can be uncovered through logic and backtracking. But the orphan population is so extreme at this point, I wonder which of our household systems is failing? If my husband starts analyzing the problem, he may never stop. If I think about it too long, I might start ripping apart closets until dinner time. Should I call a family meeting and implement a new chores and protocols to "keep socks united"? Or should I just keep smiling when my children wear mismatched socks to school and think it's cool? : both;'/>

The last sentence is a good approach! :)
Seriously it's the dryer... remember that I had those very thick warm cashmere slipper socks? After I got my laundry out of the dryer one was gone.. and never to be found again...
And well most kids think that wearing mismatched socks is cool - so let's have them some fun! haha
